Voted BBC Liverpool’s unsigned band of the month for November 2007 and more recently Liverpool Echo’s unsigned band of the week the band are beginning to make waves in the industry. A successful acoustic tour at the beginning of 2008 saw Paul and Chris (Vocals and Lead Guitar respectively) winning friends and fans from around the country on their visits to London, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Cardiff, Hull and Portsmouth.
Appearing on the unsigned show, BBC Raw Talent, (acclaimed by Steve Lamacq), the band has generated curious interest both in the media and in the industry. The ‘Strawhouses Presents...’ night in March at 3345 (Parr Street Studios) featured some of the hottest Liverpool acts from The Kambourines, Paul Holden, Sonic Hearts and of course Strawhouses.
Forming in 2007 and inspired by Orwellian conspiracies, their lyrics range from apocalyptic nightmare visions of the future to self conscious, claustrophobic confessions of past mistakes. They epitomize the feeling that we’re all living blissfully unaware that we’re on rather unsteady ground, injecting you with a beautiful sense that you’re on the cusp of something truly incredible, but ever so fragile that it could so easily crumble at any moment.
Tracks such as ‘These are The Willing’ and ‘Sunlight’ have gained rave reviews for their diversity, blasting sounds of energetic Radiohead & Interpol, creating glorious walls of sound with dark pounding guitars, whilst at other times being ever so intricately delicate. The band truly captures the feel of the northern sky line suggesting hope and optimism whilst all the while being mindful of a wider dark landscape.
The band, now back in full, are at the start of some very exciting times. With a recent session on the highly acclaimed ‘In The Pool Show’ hosted by Dave Monks on BBC Merseyside, a cracking bank holiday gig supporting The Rushes, and the success of Surface Unsigned Festival in Manchester, (the band will be in the final rounds playing at Manchester’s Dry Bar in June), the band are looking forward to travelling the country and recording their first EP in June. The band will be in London at the end of May, first playing The Purple Turtle in Camden, 29th May, followed by a high class London club night ‘This Feeling’ on May 30th supporting none other than Starsailor. The last club night had the likes of Noel Fielding, The Kills, Pixie Geldof, Jonny Borrell, The View and The Twang turning up.
